It was easy and normal to adhere to norms in the small town of Mehranpur. People got up early, greeted one another, and shut down their stores before sunset. These routines were what Ayan was used to seeing mold the lives of everyone. But one day, something startling happened to the rhythm of the town in the form of a sudden flood. Highways disappeared, houses were submerged and panic took the place of comfort. Ayan took action when others were waiting to be given instructions. He took food, arranged rescue boats and assisted seniors to get to safety. Initially, there was talk under breath that he was defying the rules being able to do something without authorization. But they followed the example of his bravery. Teamwork became the order of the day soon. Once the calm came back, the town learned that norms do not exist indefinitely. At times, it is needed to change the norm in order to save lives, to bring back hope and make the community more resilient and compassionate.
