The history of Angkol Watusi cattle breeding goes back more than 5,000 years in East Africa. This type of cow is the result of crossbreeding ancient Egyptian cows with South Asian zebu.
This type of animal has a high status as it was accepted as currency. It is kept only for its milk rather than its meat, and its dung is used as a building material and fuel.
Its origins mostly go back to East Africa, specifically Rwanda and Burundi.
They are found in savannas and grasslands and feed on grasses, hay and leaves. Weighing from 300 to 500 kg, they can live up to 20 years in the wild and up to 25 years in human care.
