Currently, the ongoing war between Iran and the US-Israel has started to make an impact worldwide. We all know how international energy trading has been hampered and the effects of it. Well, I'm not gonna go exploring who's doing what, we all know who the villains are and provoking things. Let's keep them aside, I am gonna talk about the impact I'm already facing living in a third-world country and far from those lands.
Just a few days ago, I saw a very long queue of vehicles refueling their vehicles. Many were shut due to the shortage. Actually, there wasn’t a shortage like that initially, but the news created a panic, and people started to reserve for the coming days. The demand got almost 10x, and they were out of supply within a day, which could have met the demands for a week. Few got reserves for a week, and many couldn’t get anything at all, which created a sudden shortage and suffering.
We got shipments that had already passed the Hormuz and were in our way, it reached and we have enough to meet the demand. But the growing panic kinda worsened, people were taking more than their needs in case of any worst-case scenarios. Well, Iran has also given us a green flag that they will let our supplies pass, but who knows the future? The panic isn’t gone, and people are getting crazy to have backup, which is still creating a shortage and messed-up situations, and queues that take hours to refill.
Okay, let's assume the energy problem is sorted or whatever; there are more supply-related issues that come with wars. We faced the same price hikes in other wars and pandemics as well. No matter what, our economy didn’t suffer that way, you know why? Because the biggest key factor of our economy is remittance, it keeps the economy stable. No matter what, it kept rolling in and we were saved multiple times, even in the hard times when the country was fighting against fascism and made a revolution.
The main sources of remittances are the Middle East, countries like Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain, etc. Now, if the Middle East is shaken by the war, then the impact is gonna surely hit in our place as well. My very own brother reported that their company was about to get some payment from a Qatarian company, but it got stuck. A friend of mine, living in Qatar, is mentally unstable due to the ongoing destruction as they could feel those missile attacks live nearby. A majority of our immigrants are living in these countries, which kinda run our economy and families like mine.
So yeah, there are a few things about what's right or wrong, we just pray and hope that the right gets to win, at least before we get hit severely. Countries like ours might not get hit directly by a missile, but those wars are gonna surely cause damage indirectly. Lets pray and hope that things get setled very soon
