This is my post for #freewriters 2288 prompt they are all mainstream hosted by
For many years people thought pretty much the same way, you could say they were all mainstream. You had to marry before sex, you had to marry the opposite sex and you had to identify with the sex that you were born with. The man worked and the woman stayed home, but along the way, things changed, and people changed.
There were things my father had raised me to believe and I believed him but somewhere along the way, I changed, I started seeing things differently, I can not tell you when or why but I am glad I did. I started looking at it as, why not accept the person for who they are standing in front of me, not for what color their skin is or who someone wants to be with, that is none of my business or yours.
If someone is gay, they are not going to turn you or your child gay no more than being black, white or any other race will turn them that race. If your child says they are gay, they were born gay, no one turned them that way.
Now not so much my generation but for sure my children's and grandchildren's generation has become more accepting of how others want to live their lives. People can now be openly gay or look like a woman but see themselves as a man. A man can openly dress as a woman. I recently met a young woman who sees herself as a man and even though I know she identifies as a man, my eyes saw a woman, and could not help to say she when I later talked about her. It was not because I did not accept him but because it was hard to deceive my eyes. There was no disrespect.
I know some people will disagree with me and that is ok, just like the gays, you are entitled to be who you want to be and believe your beliefs.
I started this post like this but it changed direction
I have noticed that when something comes across the internet like the ice bucket challenge or the one where people climb out of their car while the car is still going. People jump on doing these things as if they are all mainstream, then in a couple of months people get tired of them and stop posting about it and now most of us have forgotten about them.
