Last week we found one of the quail dead in its cage, its head was wet. My husband figured it was a snake that could not swallow the entire quail. Today he found the snake in his shop. He took it down the road and released it. The quail were fighting so we had one in a separate cage and did not think about a snake fitting through the wire on that cage. We feel so bad that we let this happen.
The rat snake is shedding its skin, I would think they would be of minimum service when they are in this state, it was hiding under something on top of my husband's toolbox. He said our daughter was just out there getting a tool, he noticed it when she walked away, and he said it was eye level to her.
My daughter walks into the house with a carton of eggs, she takes one out and throws it at me, the eggs are filled with confetti, what a mess, and I was not the one who cleaned it up.
