This is my post for #freewriters 2291 prompt bottom of the pile hosted by
People have always joked about northern people moving here and buying swampland. This is not far from the truth, big developers diked off the swamps and hauled enough fill into the area to raise the elevation and what was once a swamp is called The Highlands, people flocked to the area buying up the land.
Little did we know that when we bought this place, we were buying swamp land. The only problem is, we did not have a developer to haul the fill needed to keep it from flooding.
So we have to hire a dump truck to bring enough shell dirt to fill all of our low spots. The dump truck dumps it in one place and we shovel it into the back of my husband's truck.
Now we have to drive to the low spots in our driveway and shovel it out of the truck
The dog was not happy with us, this was her favorite mud puddle.
We were both happy to see the bottom of the pile, it took us a couple of weeks to get it down to this size.
I always love it when I find a treasure in a load of dirt. This is a fossilized clam. I have found the clam itself, but never with the shell still attached.
