This is my post for #freewriters 2756 prompt finger buffet hosted by
Yesterday, my sister told me she wanted to go to Fellsmere, they were giving away food today at the Operation Hope building, she said for me to be ready by 7am, and she would pick me up. I said why so early. She said she wanted to get there early to get in line. I did not want to leave that early, but said I would. At 7 this morning, she called and said she has been on the phone with her daughter and is not dressed yet. I got mad because even though I did not want to be, I was dressed and ready to go and knew she could have dressed and drove here while talking on the phone, she always talks with it on speaker, and yesterday she had insisted I be ready at 7.
We get out there and in line, the best I could count we were somewhere between the 80th or 90th vehicle in line, and it was still going to be 2 hours before they opened. I counted 22 cars behind us. I told her this was the last time I was doing this.
With all of the food they gave each vehicle, you could make more than a finger buffet, it was a ridiculous amount. We gave food to five families and kept more than we needed because we had no one else to give it to. I did not count how much of each thing but we got a ton of bananas, bags and bags of small white potatoes, huge bags of kale, lots of cucumbers, watermelons, 2 cases of Campbell's soup and a case of garbanzo beans, several boxes of instant mashed potatoes, jugs of grape juice, several quarts of milk, cabbage, gummy snacks for kids, 2 collapsable coolers, a long grill lighter, 2 calculaters, a battery operated fan that sprays water, toys for her grandkids and some other things that I can not remember what they were. It was an overload of food and stuff. The man told us they had enough for 150 cars, I do not know what they were going to do with the rest, because not much over 100 cars were there, we could have left at 9 and still gotten food.
Then my sister wanted me to help her get this Y off of the faucet that she needs to use so she can fill the pool when she gets it set up.
I tried to hold it tight while she used the pipe wrench to get it loose. I told her not to put a lot of pressure on it, you see what happened.
So we had to go to Home Depot and buy a new fitting and faucet, she did not want to mess with trying to get the old one apart. I put the board under it because I could see her or the girls pulling on the hose and breaking the 1/2 pipe. I wish I could have nailed the board to the trailer, but that part is concrete, so it is just sitting there. It will help if they do not pull it sideways. I wish I had something to affix the pipe to the board, not sure what that thing is called but it goes over the pipe and screwed on each side of the board. I did the best I could with what I had to work with.
