This is my post for #freewriters 2769 prompt confidence in the system hosted by
Sometimes I think I am in tune with whoever makes these prompts. For the last two days, I have been thinking about what people would do if the internet suddenly crashed. I mean, crashed for good. I think my generation would fare alright, but the younger ones, especially kids, teens, and people to their 40s. They all have too much confidence in the system. They think it will always be here. I have seen how things can change, and I have no confidence in the system.
I don't know what would cause us not to have the internet, but I think it could happen. Parents would have a hard time with young children, they would not understand why they can not get on their tablet or whatever device the parents use to keep them occupied. They might have to talk to them or play games with them. Wouldn't that be terrible? (insert sarcasm).
As for teenagers, how would they cope without a cell phone? I wonder if they even know how to use a landline. When they get together with their friends, they would have to talk to each other. Now that is an old concept that has been lost. When I see a group of teens and they are all sitting together, they are all on their cell phones, no one is talking unless one says, watch this video.
People in their 20s to 40s are so used to ordering food and having it delivered to their home, there would be no apps for this, would they now have to cook something to eat? Or only order a pizza on the landline, like in the old days.
They are also used to ordering what they want and having it the next day. Waiting a week or two, or more, for a delivery is something they have never experienced. They have their paychecks direct deposited, now they will need to sign the check, fill out a deposit slip, take it to the bank, and balance their checkbook.
Somehow, I feel that if we lost the internet, there would be more chaos, more hatred for each other, and more blaming the other side, whichever one that might be. I think losing it would be good, but I also think it could be bad. What do you think?
