This is my post for #freewriters Monday prompt longing for a cigarette hosted by
After not fishing for who knows how long, yes, it had been so long that I can not remember the last time I went, I went today. The weather has been cold and this makes the river water cold, when the water gets below 72, the fish that I catch go to warmer water. It is warming back up now, they should be coming back. But they are not here yet and I want a cigarette.
I ran this river over, meaning that I went everywhere that I thought I had enough fuel to get to. I started out by going to the middle inlet bank, to Coconut, across the South Bay to the Big Sleuth, across Blackpoint to the clam leases, to the Big Flat to Paul's Island where I was tired of running and just anchored for 45 minutes. From there I ran to Preachers Hole. I still have not seen one. across to Del Mars Rock Pile and to the west shore. Now I head back to the north. I zig zagged Rocky Point all the way to Dalrimples Where I headed east to Turtle Pen Sleuth. I went through Turtle Pen and out at Melva's Island, I went across it to Reeses Lease and back to the Big Sleuth. Down the A1A docks and out to the clam leases. Now I am back at the Big Flat. I saw a fish of some sort boil away from my boat so out of desperation, I anchored. I knew it was not a pompano but I tried it anyway. when a pompano boils off your boat, you know it, there is no doubt about it and I knew this was not one. Now I am on the west shore putting my rods away so I can pull into the boat ramp.
I quit smoking close to 30 years ago and the longing for a cigarette has never gone away. Days like today really bring that urge out in me. If my willpower was not so strong I would be back to at least 2 packs a day, maybe more. I know that if I take one puff, that would be it. That is the only reason that I do not take that puff because I KNOW AND I AM STRONGER THAT IT IS!
