Woolly Mammoth
big machine
he shook his head
soda pop
I took one of those sightseeing tours to the backcountry of Alaska, I was on one of the smaller boats that took us on a winding river deep within Alaska. The tour was to end at a remote village.
Before getting to the village, I spotted a big machine, I would have missed it, like everyone else, except I turned to ask for a soda pop. Everyone else was watching a mother moose with her twins. I thought it was odd to see this big machine so far from civilization.
Once we arrived at the village, I asked about the machine, but no one would tell me anything, they all said nobody knows anything about it. I knew what I saw and wanted to speak with the village elders.
Inside a very large teepee, we sat in a circle, when I asked about the machine, the oldest man looked at me, then he shook his head without speaking. He asked all the others to leave the teepee.
As the others left, we sat in silence. He was watching me and speaking a language that I had never heard. When he finished he says, "people travel our river and do not see what you saw. It has been there from the time the wooly mammoth roamed our land. As a child I saw it and the elder of our village told the story to me and I was told to tell it to the next person who could see the machine and for all these years, no one has seen it."
You are the chosen one, you will now be the one that lives here and guards the secrets of the big machine.
