This is my post for #freewriters Thursday prompt we got room hosted by
In 1953 my Mom and Dad moved to what is now called Sebastian Inlet State Park. Dad leased the land from the county for 48 dollars a year and he started a campground there, he called it Henry's Fish Camp. Back then it was a piece of land with not many trees and a few fishing cabins. Mom and Dad lived in a tent with my oldest brother and sister. Later Dad built the house in the above picture, they lived in it for a couple of years with a tarp for a roof. It was 3 bedrooms and one bathroom. Mom had 5 kids, the two oldest were from my Dads previous marriage. This picture was taken in the early 1960s, I am the one on the right with my younger sister.
The living room and kitchen were one large room, I guess Dad was before his time with the open room concept. There was a total of 9 people living under one roof and if someone wanted to stay the night, the answer was yes, we got room.
I think back about this little house and can not believe that we never felt crowded. I also look at today's houses and wonder why people think they need such big houses. If you look at the homes being built along the river or the ones along the beach, I wonder why 2 people need such large homes. To tell you the truth, I would not want a house that big, even when my kids were small.....
Today started out being a great day. I had to go to Winn Dixie to get my meds from the pharmacy. Last month when I was there I bought a grouper, it is what they call a combo in lottery tickets, you get 7 dollars worth for 5 dollars, so while there today I had them checked. I almost had a party right there in the store. I won 57 dollars and a free ticket. I have never won that much. I bought another grouper and put 52 dollars in my pocket.
Later my day turned bad, I had an appointment with the dermatologist and he froze some places on my face and back, then he took 3 biopsies. It will be a couple of weeks before I can find out if they are good or bad. Last time he did 7 biopsies and only 1 was bad so I feel that the odds are in my favor. Keep me in your prayers.
