This is my post for #freewriters Wednesday prompt insulation hosted by
Insulation, just by saying the word makes me itchy. Another word that does it is two words grinding fiberglass, just the thought of those two words makes my skin crawl.
When we had the two hurricanes in 2004 our house lost part of the roof and had to be stripped down to the studs insulation and all because it quickly filled with black mold. The insurance company told me that I had to place fans in the rooms with the mold to try to get them to dry out. The insurance people came out to inspect the house and saw the fans, they told me to turn them off, I was spreading the spores. I told them that their office was who told me that I had to put the fans there. He had nothing else to say.
When I first got this boat I had to just about gut it. One thing a commercial fisherman does when they acquire a new to them boat is if it has flotation in it we take it out. Flotation is like foam insulation. I have a seat that goes across the back, one half is a dry box and the other half is seat. The foam was under the seat. I could not believe how much I dug out, I filled a tall yard garbage can.
We take the floatation out of our boats because it always soaks up water. It does not matter how well it is sealed, water will get to it. When it soaks up with water it will add weight to your boat. The heavier your boat is, the more fuel you will burn.
There is a downside to doing this. If you sink, your boat is going down, but that is a chance we take. I have never worried about it before but this boat takes on a lot of water when it is rough, so it does worry me.
