This is my post for #freewriters Wednesday prompt lost momentum hosted by and
We have not been fishing since Monday, it is not because we have lost momentum but because the fish had moved and the areca seeds are ripe enough to pick. My husband is going to go tomorrow but he is going south, we have been catching them to our north. I can not go because I have a doctor's appointment.
Today we picked the areca seeds. Arecas are a type of palm tree that people like to use for hedges. They grow tall and thick, you can not see through them. We try to plant 200 every summer.
We will put about 50 seeds in each one gallon pot. and leave them until they get about one foot tall.
We planted 100 pots today, we put shade cloth over them to keep the sun from burning the new plants when they come up. And it also keeps the rabbits from eating them. My husband covered them before I could take a picture and I was too lazy to pull it back.
Once they are a foot tall we will step them up to 7 gallon pots.
It will take 3 years to get them to sellable size which is anywhere from 5 to 7 feet tall.
When the river crashed we needed some way to make money and stay self-employed, this is why we started growing plants and selling them.
