This is my post for #freewrite Friday prompt beach towel hosted by
I do not think I can get my day typed out in 5 minutes, I might go over. It was a one thing after another day. I started with putting a new tail light on my boat trailer which turned out to be no simple task. The bracket that held the light was also broke off, so I decided to drill two holes in the back of my trailer. When drilling metal you need to drill slow and keep dipping the drill bit in oil until it starts catching, then means you are almost through, then is the time you drill fast. It took some time to get the holes drilled but finally I got it and put the new light on and wires back in place.
The next thing was to check the oil in the lower unit, which took a lot of oil, I need to check it more often. I knew it had to be low because it started making a whinnying noise. After doing that I noticed an oil sheen on one side of the motor which we figure is coming out of the carburetor from running half tilt, as I was about to put the cowlyn back on I saw a place on the water jacket gasket that had a big build-up of salt which means it has a leak in it. I cleaned all of the salt off and sprayed oil on it.
My husband was walking by and he says oh shit, I asked what was oh shit and he said look, my buddy bearing was gone but he said he has another one, simple fix. Haha, there is never a simple fix. I said why is there a big gap on top of the spindle and no gap at the bottom.
We took it all apart and this is what the bearings and ring looked like, there are supposed to be two bearings but there was only one and the casing was broke apart and all the bearing but two were gone also the carter pin was broke in half. I would have lost my tire on the next trip to the ramp. Thank you to my Guardian Angel.
My husband said he had some bearing in his shop but they did not fit, I asked if they were expensive and he said no. He got back from buying new ones and when he got out of his truck he says "what rock have I been hiding under"? He said everything he had to buy was 48 dollars.
I do not know why I always get the job of packing the bearings. To do this you have to put a big glob of grease in the palm of your hand and keep rubbing the bearings in it to fill them with grease. I had enough grease on me that I bet I could have filled a beach towel with it when cleaning up.
