This is my post for #freewriters Friday prompt smile hosted by
I did something today that I rarely do. I took the entire day to do things that I have been wanting to do. And it felt good and it feels bad because now my back hurts, but I am happy.
A few weeks ago I took an old deck apart and stacked the wood on the edge of our driveway not knowing what to do with it but it is pressure-treated wood so I did not want to throw it away. So today I cut some of it up and built a 10 foot by 4-foot planter for my pineapples, I also planted some marigolds with them, just for the color. I put it beside our driveway just before the gate to our yard. I always save the tops of the pineapples and replant them. One pineapple top has 3 plants coming off of it, triplets, that made me smile. They have not figured a way to make them not grow but I am sure in time they will figure out how to keep us from planting them.
I have been throwing all of the dead banana leaves in the bottom of this hole but it is not filling up like I would like it to. I put a couple of marigolds down there but the other plants are water-loving plants because it fills with water after a rain.
This made me smile. A baby pineapple, I can already taste it. I did not want to disturb it so it will stay in the pot.
Here are two ways to grow pineapples.
Some people put the pineapple top in a large plastic bag with an apple, then move it to a shady spot. The apple gives off ethylene gas that will encourage the plant to bloom and set fruit. After four days, remove the plant from the bag and set it back in the sun. Flowers should appear in a few months, followed by a small fruit. The other method is explained on this website.

I would rather let nature do its thing.
This is how I do it. I twist or cut the top off, let it dry, and stick it in a pot or in the ground. I feed and water it, then cross my fingers and in 2 or 3 years I get fruit. Good luck.
