Children suffer the most from segregation fences.
The offensive fence
The big day had arrived. The whole city was buzzing with excitement, and expectations for the Christmas fair were sky-high. It was the event of the year, marking the beginning of the Christmas season. Young and old alike were getting ready, with skates, hats, bicycles, and even a few bottles of wine. It was going to be a real Saturday night.
However, upon arrival and to everyone's surprise, they found a huge, ugly fence, an iron monstrosity that contrasted sharply with the Christmas decorations. The fence divided the attendees; it divided Christmas. The mayor had decided to separate people based on their religious beliefs and origins; according to him, he did not want any problems with migrants. It was an offensive fence for everyone.
Christmas should be a time for sharing, for unity, regardless of one's beliefs and country of origin. The fence put up by the mayor violated the fundamental values of respect and tolerance that had always identified the city. Segregation not only physically affected those in attendance, but also emotionally hurt the city, the state, and the entire great nation.
The mayor's action not only failed in its goal of maintaining order, but also reflected a narrow and prejudiced view. The struggle for equality and acceptance must prevail over any attempt at division, reminding us that what really matters is our shared humanity, beyond people's beliefs and origins.

La valla ofensiva
El gran día había llegado. La ciudad entera vibraba de emoción, las expectativas sobre la feria navideña eran enormes. Era el evento del año, el que marcaba el comienzo de las navidades. Grandes y chicos se preparaban, patines, gorros, bicicletas y hasta unas botellas de vino. Sería un verdadero sábado por la noche.
Sin embargo, al llegar y para sorpresa de todos, se encontraron con una enorme y fea valla, un mamotreto de hierro, algo que contrastaba radicalmente con la decoración navideña. La valla dividía a los asistentes, dividía la navidad. El Alcalde había decidido separar a las personas por sus creencias religiosas y sus orígenes, según él no quería problemas de migrantes. Era una valla ofensiva para todos.
La navidad debería ser un momento para compartir, para la unión, independientemente de sus creencias y de su país de origen. La valla puesta por el Alcalde quebrantaba los valores fundamentales de respeto y tolerancia que siempre había identificado a la ciudad. La segregación no solo afecto físicamente a los asistentes, sino que hirió emocionalmente a la ciudad, al Estado y toda la gran nación.
La acción del alcalde no solo fracasó en su objetivo de mantener el orden, sino que también reflejó una visión estrecha y prejuiciosa. La lucha por la igualdad y la aceptación debe prevalecer ante cualquier intento de división, recordándonos que lo que realmente importa es la humanidad compartida, más allá de las creencias y de los orígenes de las personas.
