It was night. The city was dark and quiet. The city that once buzzed with life was now nothing but fire and shadows.
Suddenly, a loud sound broke the air. "Run!!" somebody shouted. Jacob grabbed my hand tightly and rushed forward. Behind us, we heard the sounds of shuffling feet, rustling of leaves, and low guttural moans. It was the zombies — they were coming for us.
The zombies were getting closer.
We stumbled through the broken street. Our flashlight was low on light. We could only see a few steps ahead.
Mia pointed to a furniture shop. "Quick! Inside!" We hid behind a counter. It was quiet for a moment. Then we again heard the groans of zombies. They were near again.
We ran from the back door of the shop. On our way, we saw the bridge. The bridge was our only way to get out of here. As soon as we ran, the wood cracked. "Jump!" I shouted. The bridge fell down behind us just as we jumped.
But thankfully, we made it to the other side of the road.
We lay on the ground, breathing hard. Mia looked at me and smiled weakly.
"We made it."
