Dhaka, The Capital City of Bangladesh. According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, the population of Dhaka in 1970 was 1.8 million. According to the 1981 census, it increased 40 lakh 23 thousand 883 people.
Then according to the 1991 census, the population of the capital stood at 68 lakh 11 thousand 642 people. According to the 2001 census the population of Dhaka is 83 lakh 78 thousand 83 people.
According to the latest census of 2001, the population of the city stood at 13 million. At present, according to the United Nations World Urbanization Prosecutor, the population of Dhaka is currently 17 million which will reach 2 crore 74 lakhs by 2030.Currently Dhaka is the eleventh crowded which reach 6th in 2030.
Although Manila is currently the most densely populated country in the world in the terms of population density, Dhaka ranks Third.But in the current population of Dhaka is calculated at 17 million, Dhaka will be the most populous country in the world.
The reason of high population of Dhaka: Best School, Collage & University is situated in Dhaka. All kinds of Government Ministry, Department, Head Office of the Department even large private companies & institution is in Dhaka. All major hospital are here.
The central office of all types of financial institutions ,Bank & Insurance is in Dhaka. All kinds of foreign Embassy is in Dhaka.

The industrial factories which built around Dhaka turned at into a commercial city, due to this people from all over the country turned to Dhaka. Everyday thousands of people enter Dhaka through Sadarghat Launch Ghat, Kamalapur Railway Station, Gabtali-Sayedabad-Mohakhali bus terminal.Most of those people remain in Dhaka.

In my opinion, there is no signs of declining population in Dhaka at present. Rather it will increase day by day which will further accelerate the pollution of Dhaka city that will be the very alarming for peoples wealth & health.
