I finally finished Wind and Truth by Brandon Sanderson about a week ago - a book that I bounced off of and picked back up several times over the last about... year. I found the first half of the book to be just... difficult to read. Pacing maybe? Or maybe I just wasn't interested in some of the characters? Either way, it took until the last half of the book for it to actually capture my attention which is the first time any of the Stormlight Archives books have failed to keep my attention for its entire pagecount.
In the end, it was a great way to finish the 5th book in the series. A bit of work to get through for me, but a very good payoff in the long run.
Feeling like a break from epic fantasy, I picked up a wholly different style of book from my Audible library - There Is No Antimemetics Division.
This is a small-ish book, only about 300 pages, and it is more of a mystery/thriller science fiction story. It draws heavy inspiration from the SCP Foundation, so folks who are fans of that site will very likely enjoy this book. I know I certainly did. I picked it up on Tuesday, and finished it on Wednesday at 11pm. It was difficult to put down, and was a very fun little book.
After that, I began "We are Legion (We are Bob)", which is another short scifi book, and the first of a series. I've owned this one for a long time, and just hadn't found the urge to start reading it... but after the prior book I thought another ~300-pager was the right fit, and tossed it on.
Once again, I smashed through it. I finished that one today (one day after I picked it up), and so... I've moved onto the next in the series. "For We Are Many".
The Bobiverse books are about a dude who decides to purchase a cryogenics plan, gets hit by a car shortly thereafter, and subsequently becomes a head in a tank. 100-ish odd years later, he's defrosted, uploaded, and becomes a spaceship. It is fantastic! Funny, thick with scifi and pop culture references, and just entertaining... It's got a lot of what I like from the Murderbot Diaries (human-like machines) mixed with what I like from the Children of Time series (exploration and space fun), which makes it a very good fit for my entertainment right now.
