"It is hard not to feel like history is once again casting a shadow across what few points of light still remain."
A while ago, I watched a video essay about a little tabletop role-playing game called NIGHTHAWKS, based on the famous painting of the same name. It talks about art, expectations, and how we perceive things. It's a good essay, but I bring it up only since it feels disingenuous to pull Aaron's closing comment as a quote without showing where I've pulled it from.
This line keeps popping into my head as I read and watch the news, and it really does feel like history is casting a shadow across my own little points of light. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that, after the last few years, what I long for most right now is to live in uninteresting times.
The global political landscape seems determined not to let that happen, however.
But, despite that, I'm walking into this year determined to protect my little points of light. Tabletop gaming, writing, reading, hanging out with my wife and my kids, and hanging out with my friends. It's important to be aware of what utter bullshit is going on in the world, but it's also important not to let that crush you.
