The coyote was perched, yes perched, on a fence post of my newly installed chain link fence. I had paid the big bucks for a 6 foot high fence, because I really really really do not like coyotes, and did not want any chance of one getting into my chicken yard.
A lot of good that expense did me.
I called the fence guy who had assured me that 6 feet would keep all coyotes out. When he heard there was a coyote perched on the fence post he had just installed, he exclaimed
"So that's where she went!" I could then hear him talking to someone else in his office. "Big Bertha has been found!" Back to me he excitedly said "We'll be right over!"
I could hear his truck from a mile away. He had loudspeakers blaring some sort of new age music, a whooshing sound with occassional loud bleeps, on the top of his car. He came careening around the corner into my driveway, sped up to the top, and stopped just short of the coyote, who was still calmly perched on my fence, as if she had been waiting there just for him.
This is my entry to 's daily freewrite challenge. Today's prompt is chain link fence.
