Si hay una tradición más vinculada a la Navidad del Señor es la llegada de los Tres Reyes Magos, la madrugada del 6 de enero, tiempo en el cual aquellos sabios provenientes del Oriente ofrecen regalos emblemáticos al niño Jesús. Lo que se ha difundido se deriva del Evangelio de San Mateo, y aunque otras versiones que rodean la leyenda señalan que fueron más de tres, y tal vez hasta 12 reyes que viajaron desde lejos para celebrar y honrar el nacimiento del Mesías, la tradición consolidó tres que representan los continentes que se conocían al principio de la era cristiana desde el siglo II d.C: Asia, Europa y Africa. Así Melchor encarna a los europeos, Gaspar a los asiáticos y Baltasar a los africanos. Igualmente, cada mago trajo un regalo para el niño Jesús: oro, incienso y mirra que tienen un valor significativo por tratarse del Mesías.
Estos magos realmente, no eran reyes ni magos, sino sabios, tal vez astrónomos o sacerdotes predicadores, dicen que poseedores de grandes fortunas, pero lo más significativo era que buscaban la verdad, estaban persuadidos con su fe, de que llegaría el Mesías, para traernos la salvación y la paz. Eran los tiempos del rey Herodes, quien gobernaba desde hacía varias décadas, sometido por el poder imperial de Roma. La mayoría de los judíos vivían en las peores condiciones, solo una cúpula de ricos se beneficiaba al compartir las bondades del poder del imperio invasor. La esperanza del Mesías, unía a aquella gente en la fe por lograr tiempos mejores de paz y bienestar general. Los sabios de Oriente le trajeron al niño oro, incienso y mirra. Sus significados son evidentes: oro lo más valioso para reconocer al Rey recién nacido, incienso que hace referencia al carácter divino de Jesús ya que la especie era quemada delante de los dioses para honrarlos y la mirra era una sustancia aromática, que se usaba como analgésico, lo que supone que servía para quitarle el dolor al mundo.
Esta tradición se celebra en el mundo cristiano de muchas maneras, es tiempo de encuentros y reencuentros que completan la festividad navideña iniciada el 24 de diciembre de cada año. Tiempo en que la gente toma tiempo no solo para celebrar la Navidad sino la conclusión del año, suerte de período de vida que se marca cada 365 días donde termina y comienza otra etapa, por eso se expresan los mejores deseos a todos en salud y bienestar, en prosperidad y logro de proyectos personales o comunitarios. Así lo celebran en más de 50 países, los que más tienen y los que tienen poco, todos celebran con regalos o con palabras y los mejores sentimientos.
En lo particular, no puedo dejar de recordar hoy a mi fallecido hermano, quien nació un 6 de enero. En nuestra infancia y adolescencia en nuestra casa celebrábamos la Navidad, el año nuevo y el Día de Reyes. En algunas ocasiones, no nos visitó el niño Jesús. Entonces mi abuela nos decía a los tres hermanos, “no se entristezcan, Jesús si vino y está aquí todo el tiempo, pero él no solo trae cosas. Jesús nace para traernos esperanza de una vida mejor y por eso debemos confiar en nosotros mismos; hay gente que tiene problemas y situaciones más graves que las nuestras y nosotros debemos entenderlo así; debemos ser solidarios y comprensivos con el prójimo que necesita más, con los enfermos, los ancianos y la gente abandonada. Seguramente que los Reyes Magos sí les traerán algo, solo hay que tener fe en que el año que viene será mejor que éste que nos dio poco y el 6 d enero celebraremos el cumpleaños de Manuel con la esperanza de que el año que viene las cosas estarán mejor que hoy”. Mi tía y mi abuela apoyaban toda esta argumentación con risas o anécdotas de su infancia.
La madrugada del 6 de enero en la casa de las margariteñas era muy especial porque tres reinas magas, envueltas en sábanas blancas entraban a nuestro cuarto y al de mi hermana cantando aguinaldos y la canción de cumpleaños feliz de Manuel. La abuela, mi madre y mi tía nos consentían con lo que su escaso presupuesto les daba para hacernos dichosos el Día de Reyes. Que Dios las tenga en la gloria, junto con mi hermano. Their meanings are evident: gold was the most valuable thing to recognize the newborn King; frankincense refers to the divine character of Jesus since the spice was burned before the gods to honor them; and myrrh was an aromatic substance, which was used as an analgesic, which means that it served to take away the pain of the world.
This tradition is celebrated in the Christian world in many ways, it is a time of meetings and reunions that complete the Christmas festivity that begins on December 24 of each year. It is a time when people take time not only to celebrate Christmas but also the conclusion of the year, a sort of period of life that is marked every 365 days where another stage ends and begins, that is why the best wishes are expressed to all in health and welfare, prosperity and achievement of personal or community projects. The early morning of January 6th in the house of the "Margariteñas", was very special because three wise queens, wrapped in white sheets, came into our room and my sister's room singing Christmas songs and Manuel's happy birthday song.
