For me, this text wins the reader precisely through the ambiguity it creates, the uncertainty between whether there was a real change or if it is only the narrator’s subjective interpretation. It enters fully into the literature of the absurd, and in doing so becomes a magnificent story built on an atmosphere of mystery. We remain caught in the eternal reflection of whether the supernatural truly exists or if it is nothing more than a distortion of our mind and its capacity to perceive the external world.
