Author's note: I will be using
account for my journey back into writing from hereon.
Purroit and Noir were created for a short story contest that I joined a few months back. You can read The Mystery of the Feathered Serpent for another fun adventure of the duo.
Day 1963: 5 Minute Freewrite: Wednesday - Prompt: papa bear
It was like any other day when Purroit was entasked to accompany Noir in his frequent "hunts".
"Think of it as payment for my services." The crow chimed, quite pleased with the flavor he managed to partake in from the wet food the cat detective "pleaded" off a passing human.
"If I didn't know better, I'd also think you enjoy using me as a form of bait to supplement your frequent meals..." The tiger-striped cat drawled, spying yet another human coming out of the small grocers' they waited outside at, this one strolled a trolley in front of them, containing not human food but a human babe.
Hmm? Purroit watched in silent curiosity as the tiny human raised a stuffed bear from their tiny hands and affectionately called it "papa bear". But just as she was being strapped into the car, "papa bear" had tumbled down from her hands with the human parent none the wiser despite the child's now panicked cries for her soon-to-be lost toy.
"Goodness, would you look at that!" Noir glided towards the abandoned toy now left stranded in the small parking lot before Purroit could even give it much thought, Oh how I wish to just lay in the grass and soak in the sun today... The feline mumbled to himself.
"I will track the car from above so we can give this back to the little mademoiselle, how about it detective?" Before Purroit could even give a quick quip on how he wasn't a dog to play fetch with, the crow had already taken flight and left to him the stuffed bear to handle.
Thankfully, the car hadn't gone far as it stopped by a drive-thru, with Noir handling it from there as he swiftly dropped the teddy inside the nearest car window that was slid down, eliciting a jovial "papa bear!" from inside.
"Think of it as good karma for a fruitful day detective!" Noir remarked, a twinkle in his eye clearly evident.
"Well pray that the morning feast you used me for was sufficient enough as I won't be sharing my next meal." Purroit dryly answered in reply as they headed towards the direction of home, even though clearly there was a swishing to his tail indicating it was all in good faith.
