Since I attended a very small elementary school, I had the same teacher for 3rd and 4th grades. I didn't like her at all; she was loud, and unkind. But I do remember a few interesting things from those two years in her classroom. Once, she asked us to think about which of our senses we would dislike the most to lose. Most of us thought of sight or hearing, but she said she would hate to lose her sense of touch. With no feeling, a person doesn't know if they are getting burned, or frozen, or cut with a knife. It was something I had never considered at the young age of 9 or 10, and gave me enough food for thought to last until now. I would still prefer to keep all five of my basic senses, and not have to choose which to keep.
Nowadays, more than five senses have been identified. I haven't read any of the articles yet, but I'm sure it's all very interesting. Things have changed since I was in school. Is Pluto a planet, or isn't it? How many senses do we really have? And why did we bother to learn the names of all the countries in Africa, since most of them keep changing? I'm just glad those school days are over.
Time's up!
