The word "eliminate" may be small, but its meaning has a vast impact on our lives. At certain stages of life, we need to eradicate certain things that bring us harm. So, let me tell you a story today.
In the garden of a royal palace, a strange tree had grown. The tree was beautiful in appearance, but its fruit was extremely poisonous. Birds that ate the fruit would die, and when the tree's pollen spread through the air, it would cause the surrounding flowering plants to wilt. The king summoned his chief gardener and ordered, "Remove this poisonous tree from here." The gardener came every morning and would cut the branches of the tree. But after a few days, it was seen that the branches were growing back more quickly, and the tree was becoming even more vibrant. This increased the damage to the garden. The king, annoyed, said to the gardener, "You are not removing the tree; it is getting bigger day by day!"
Embarrassed, the gardener decided to cut the tree down to ground level. He thought he could relax now. But after about a month, it was seen that ten more shoots had sprouted up from underground. The intensity of the poison had increased more than before. Finally, an experienced old gardener said to the king, "Your Majesty, cutting a bad thing from the top does not kill it; rather, it becomes stronger. It must be eradicated." The old gardener began to dig at the base of the tree. It was found that deep underground, there was a huge poisonous root spreading out. He worked hard to uproot that root and poured salt and hot water over it to ensure nothing remained.
From then on, no poisonous tree ever grew in that garden again. The garden flourished with flowers once more.
Covering up or partially reducing problems in our lives, bad habits, or feelings of jealousy and hatred does not eliminate them. If we truly want to be free, we need to identify the root cause of the problem and uproot it completely. Partial suppression is not the answer; complete elimination is the real solution.
