In English, this is called "Mind your own business," or in the style of a French proverb,Mind your own onions.Everyone has their own life or personal matters. It is wise to focus on one's own work without interfering in others' affairs.
There was a man named Majid in that neighborhood, whose job was to poke people in the backside. He couldn't digest his food without gossiping about what was being cooked in whose kitchen or which girl was riding in a rickshaw with whom. One day, our uncle Rahmat was sitting in his courtyard, carefully chopping a bowl of onions. As Majid was passing by, he stopped abruptly. Then, tilting his neck, he asked, "Hey, Rahmat bhai! What are you going to do with so many onions? Is there a wedding? With the price of onions these days, how can you afford such luxury?"
Uncle Rahmat was a tough guy. He glanced at Majid once, then spat and said, "Majid, these onions are from my house. I cook curry and make bharta with them; what business is that of yours?Majid didn't stop there. He said, "No, I mean, these onions aren’t that big. I think you're being cheated. You would have gotten better ones if you had brought them from Lalbagh.
Now, Uncle Rahmat stood up angrily. Putting aside the chopping board, he said, "Listen, Majid, these onions are mine, my own money's worth. Whether they rot or dry up, that's 'not your onions'! Go put oil on your own onions. If you come to count the next onions, you’ll have a problem today!"
Majid understood that if he continued to gossip with Uncle Rahmat today, trouble awaited him. He hurriedly walked away from there!
