I was woken up by a thud from above my apartment.
I looked up habitually and strained my ears…
Nothing.
I narrowed my eyes. “Sigh, I’ve been hearing this thudding sound for the past few days from above.”
Now, this in itself wouldn’t be anything out of the ordinary; it’s just that…
Nobody lives in the apartment above. It’s empty and wrecked, not really in a state anyone would want to live in.
Thud.
I snapped my head toward the window and traced the sound. A tall man was heading toward my car, which was parked on the other side of the road. I watched as he swung a heavy wrench and smashed the front window of my car, then the mirrors, then the doors.
“Dammit, what the hell are you doing?!” I yelled and rushed toward my car.
The man saw me approaching, stopped smashing the car, and rushed toward me.
“Where’s my rent? I want my rent, Jon.” The man pointed the wrench at me, swinging it as if he could strike at any moment.
“But I already paid my rent—”
“DO YOU THINK YOU CAN FOOL ME, BOY?!” the man shouted and made a motion to hit me.
Before he could, a car skidded right beside me. “Jon, GET INSIDE!”
I hurriedly rushed into the open door.
“Strap yourself in. We’re going on a long ride,” the driver laughed as he pushed the car into gear.
