A Terror From The Other Side Part #1
We are officially in the first day of the #maynia contest to which the goal, reach that 50,000 words within one month as a good basis towards a story written by yourself.
So what will be my goal and what will my story be about? How am I going so far? Stick with me as I answer those questions plus provide the rough draft of what I have so far for you to have a story to enjoy reading as I progress through it. But it's going to be edited and modified after the contest to make it more worthy of a novel to be self-published someday and as we are trying to get to the 50k word goal in only one month.
All character names, title of the story and bits throughout are subject to change as I properly decide later on the final name etc for everything. This includes descriptions as it is flushed out.
What is the story about -
Genre: Fantasy horror
The story involves the Protagonist Lorek as he works to uncover the mysterious event to which a new siren was sounded and some creatures have started to appear out of nowhere to ravage the town, causing death and terror. It will involve the events leading up to and including the discovery, plus the how it all started.
The goal for this story -
My aim is to write 2,500 words a day, from Monday - Friday with potentially more written in case I have days I cannot write as much as I want. Winning is only a bonus as I may not get to the 50,000 words but I am wanting to do my best while getting a rough draft of a novel that I plan to continue writing once Maynia finishes. Sharing the rough draft will help people to see how I am going, which as it is a little more rushed compared to the usual taking time to write, will not be award-winning novel quality. đ

A Terror From The Other Side
âBut it only felt like a minute, at most.â
Lorek stood up and moved to the kitchen to make a coffee. While he waited for the kettle to boil those images played over in his mind, they were not normal, something made it feel real.
The kettle was starting to boil hard, bringing Lorek out of his thoughts and back to making his coffee.
âI should see Amial, she generally knows what could cause this and the new sirenâ he said while enjoying his coffee. The phone showed 4:50 as Lorek picked it up to send a text message to Amial, mentioning he would be coming to see her, to which a reply was shortly returned with her awaiting his arrival.
Before heading out he grabbed his 9mm pistol from a high shelf and a spare clip kept in a drawer. Nobody was around the inside of the building as Lorek proceeded down the stairs, before heading outside. There was an eerie silence, completely dead besides the rats and a pair of teenagers, male and female creeping around the buildings.
Moving toward the teenagers to see if they knew what was going on, a noise could be heard across the street, alerting the teenagers to turn and see Lorek in the corner of their eye while they focused on what could have made that noise.
They both had baseball bats ready to strike when suddenly, out came a little creature, ooze dripping from its body and mouth, sharp teeth and rushing toward the teenagers. The male ran up with a mighty swing, knocking it away before signalling Lorek to come. They all watched the creature run the opposite direction before turning to watch them once more.
âYou will want to be careful out here with those creatures roaming the streets, killing anything different to itâ said the female.
âMy name is Heather by the way, and this is my boyfriend Bruce. We live a short walk from here but have been looking around and trying to get more answers.â
âPleased to meet you, I am Lorek and I had just come out of my apartment before seeing the two of you. I was going to ask if you knew what the go was, but it seems we know as little as each other. You should come with me to see my friend.â
It was not safe to stand around, so the trio headed towards Amialâs place which sits just before the outskirts of town, roughly a twenty or so minute walk away.
âSo, this friend of yours, Amial was it? What can she do to help?â asked Bruce.
âShe is an expert on otherworldly things and how to get rid of them.â
Lorek was hoping she was alright, and nothing had happened to her or that she was somehow responsible for this mess. Amial has previously messed with experimenting on concoctions and creating living things which sometimes led to bad creatures emerging. But it was dealing with the darkness that would bring this about.
Heather picked up the pace as she heard more noises from the little creatures trailing behind in watch, allowing them to keep ahead of danger. She did not like the look of the few bloodied corpses lying about the streets and buildings.
With the pace they were at, the trip was cut down to fourteen minutes before reaching Amialâs place. Heather and Bruce were feeling the eerie vibe it gave.
The walls were covered in vines, the design was that of an 18th century concrete palace and still looked in considerably good shape, sturdy wooden front doors and even at the side of the house was a family graveyard.
âAmial would be expecting me only, so I will be sure to mention finding you cautiously cruising the streets to find a safe place and you are willing to help out however you can.â
They walked up to the house as the door started opening, revealing a young woman wearing mostly black clothes with a red streak diagonally down the top. She walked out to greet her guests while introducing herself to Heather and Bruce.
âI am sure Lorek has mentioned a bit about me, I am Amial and you are welcome to join us to look into how this new plague of creatures can best be handledâ she announced with a smile.
âOh, be sure to avoid wandering off to stick your nose into what is around the place. I donât like people wandering aimlessly or trust that many, so I will kick you out if you do so.â
A nod and agreeing to the terms were made by Heather and Bruce before everyone headed to the laboratory where Amial does all her work.
The walls of the house were filled with paintings, banners and all sorts of old collectibles carried out through the years of the Primm family to which Amial is a part of, with her, an older brother somewhere in the world and their mother as the surviving members. Small tables held beautiful vases, while sets of knight armour stood scattered about. It was clear how into collecting the Primm family were, how rich they must be to afford all of this and it was a wonder as to why their name was not as widely known today.
Someone could be heard walking just up ahead, in a room on the left of the corridor they were in before a voice spoke.
âCome here Amial dear and bring your friends along. I have put the kettle onâ said Amialâs mother Eleanora.
âWe must have a lovely cup of tea while we discuss the current events with mother. She is the one who taught me all I know after all except for the extra bits I have gone and discovered for myself.â
Everyone went into the massive dining room where they would sit to enjoy their cup of tea while proceeding to discuss what is happening and what to do next.
It was apparent someone had done something to cause this dark, creature filled storm with dark clouds and lightning being the main aspects visible. But Amial was not convinced the creatures were coming from the storm but a portal opened or a series of creation experiments going horribly wrong, opening a way for this world and another more sinister world to be travelled between.
âWe should consider the possibility someone else has been trying to create experiments which went wrong and opened up a way for these creatures to roam our world. I am able to show you the possibilities, but I only keep the good ones that donât hurt people.â
A shiver could be felt throughout the body of Heather and Bruce to hear creatures would be right where they were heading, fearing any may turn on the group.
The discussion went on for a further fifteen minutes as they finished off their tea. Lorek suggested everyone stays safe by keeping a bit of distance from Amial when they get to the room before hopping out of his chair.
âThank you, Eleanora for a lovely cup of tea as always. I would chat longer were we not in a rush to sort this matter outâ said Lorek with a smile before leading the group with Amial by his side.
As they walked to the laboratory, the storm was visible through the large hallway windows, with strikes of lightning hitting the roof of some buildings back in the main part of the town.
It was a few minutes of walking, but they finally were in the laboratory where Amial conducted all her work and experiments. The shelves had a variety of ingredients in jars ranging from animal fur, plants, rocks grinded into powder form and a lot more. Benches had beakers, flasks, test tubes plus all sorts of equipment for experiments and looked to be the point of where it happens.
A low-pitched screech could be heard toward the back of the room. âAnd you now get to see little LM-01, LM-02 and LM-03, my creatures created as successful experiments and the ones that are safer to keepâ Amial excitedly announced before they reached the creatures.
