Hi, dear members of the Freewriters community!
Did you know that it is World Marbles Day today?
This is my entry to the Writing Prompt by for 3 April 2026, Freewriters Community Daily Writing Prompt Day 3062: the other daughter.
Jacob had been living with the family for quite a few years now, and working as a helping hand in the fields.
He had grown up with the two daughters of the family, Jane and Laura, and he had admitted to himself that he was attracted to Jane.
Jane, however, didn’t seem to be interested in him at all.
He tried to express his feelings to her by giving her flowers, for example, but this didn’t make her change her opinion of him; he was just another number in the army of workers working for her dad.
Laura, on the other hand, had a kinder heart than her sister, and she always cared about her father’s employees, and especially about him, but he was blind to her emotions.
One day, another worker saw him, as he was about to go and talk to Jane again.
“You’re a big fool!”, the worker said.
When Jacob heard this, his face turned red in anger.
“Oh, really? Why do you say that?”, he asked his colleague in a trembling voice.
“Why? Can’t you see it’s the other daughter that has a crush on you?”, the worker said, and nodded his head in disbelief.
