A young climber was on one of his first solo ascents, on a mountain that even experts knew would be a challenge to climb alone and without the necessary equipment. But our friend Juan del Mar Pradera, besides having a name that didn't fit his profession and mountain lifestyle, was also very confident and knew he had the necessary skills to climb this mountain. So he decided to set out on his own.
Un joven escalador se encontraba en una de sus primeras escaladas en solitario, en una montaña que los mismos expertos sabían que era un reto escalar solo y sin el equipo necesario. Pero nuestro amigo Juan del Mar Pradera, además de tener un nombre que no iba para nada con su profesión y estilo de vida de montaña, también se tenia mucha confianza y sabia que el tenia las capacidades necesarias para escalar esta montaña. Así que decidió emprender su camino.

Starting his climb, everything seemed very simple: easy rocks and comfortable terrain for Juan del Mar Pradera. The only thing that could bother him was feeling lonely in the middle of the night, but this could be solved with a radio he had and a cell phone with satellite internet to pass the time. However, our friend Pradera was very adventurous and somewhat boastful, and while trying to get the best shot for one of his selfies, he tripped and fell about two or three meters down the mountain, hitting several rocks and losing most of his mountaineering gear in the fall.
Iniciando su escalada todo parecía ser muy sencillo, rocas fáciles de escalar y un terreno cómodo para Juan del Mar Pradera. Lo único que le podía llegar a molestar era sentir la soledad en mitad de la noche, pero esto se podía solucionar con una radio que tenia, y un celular con internet satelital para pasar el rato. Sin embargo nuestro amigo Pradera era muy aventurero y algo presumido y por tratando de hacer la mejor toma en una de sus Selfis, tropezó y cayo por la montaña unos dos o tres metros, golpeando con varias rocas y perdiendo en la caída la mayoría de su equipo de montaña.
Even though he didn't have his equipment and despite his injuries, he knew that taking one more step was his only hope. But one step toward where, toward the top of the mountain? Who could help him there? Should he begin the descent and seek help? Despite the distance and the difficulties of the path? Knowing that we have to take one more step isn't enough if we aren't clear about our objectives. Taking one more step toward where, perhaps at the top, there might be another group of climbers who could help him, but it wasn't safe. And down, the path was so long that it would be almost impossible to achieve it in his condition and without equipment. Aunque no tenia su equipo y a pesar de las heridas, sabia que dar un paso mas era su única esperanza. Pero un paso hacia donde, hacia la cima de la montaña? Quien lo podría ayudar ahí? Empezar el descenso de la montaña y buscar ayuda? A pesar de la distancia y las dificultades del camino? Saber que tenemos que dar un paso mas no es suficiente si no tenemos claro nuestros objetivos. Dar un paso mas hacia donde, quizás arriba podría haber algún otro grupo de escaladores que lo podían socorrer, pero no era seguro. Y hacia abajo, el camino era tan largo que seria casi imposible lograrlo en sus condiciones y sin equipo. Dar un paso mas, y tu amigo lector, hacia donde seria tu siguiente paso.
