As we were stuck at that point where moving forward appeared impossible; still thinking of how to manoeuvre our way, the cloud thickened with darkness. Lightening flashes started crossing the sky with supersonic speed. Deafening thunders also came up to support the flashes, signaling that the dark cloud was not joking but, heavy with rain. And, within a short time, a torrential rain descended on the plain, and around us.
The rain was so heavy that it became impossible to drive because, not only was the road heavily flooded, visibility was near zero. We could neither move forward nor backward. Every other vehicle on the road was at standstill.
We remained there for what seemed like ages, until the downpour had its fill. When it became possible to drive, that's when the flood gave way and visibility improved, we were sure it made no sense to continue the journey because the party must have been over. We simply drove back home.
In my frustration, laced with both physical and spiritual exhaustion, I dropped in bed. I didn't know when sleep stole me and took me to the dreamland where I attended a great party of unspeakable description.
In that party, I met many friends. Nneka, my most intimate friend, and the rest were there. The joy in our hearts was easy to see on our faces. Assorted wines and food were all around. The DJ was at his best, rolling out one choice music after the other. It was like paradise! None wanted it to end.
It was under that illusion that my husband tapped my back, waking me up, saying I might be late to work if I didn't get up at that moment.
I came back to reality to see that I missed the real show, only to attend a false party. What a sad story!
