The other counter(s);
One thing I like is countering, especially my thoughts. Sometimes when I'm writing, I start with one perspective, do a whole write up, only to read it and think, hmm...this could be seen another way. And just like that, I end up rewriting from a completly different angle.
When I first saw today's prompt, I thought of counter as shelves. My mind tried to build a short freewrite around shelves and cabinets and a misplacement; almost like a role play of someone being ordered to "use the other counter."
Then another meaning surfaced. Numbers. Calculators. Or even the old, methodical pen and paper calculations, like primary school students before they ever touch a calculator.
After that came counteroffers. I remembered an interview I once did, just to test negotiation, curious to hear what their counteroffer would be.
And now here I am. My mind has countered my freewrite into this. Words flew in like a flowing tap. Maybe my original idea simply activated all these counter-stories. Maybe I should tune it down. Or, maybe...I was just wrapping it up.
