Howdy Freewriters 🤗. Happy New week! Welcome to my 5 Minute Freewrite blog 😊.
The backbenchers were at it again. Gossipy, loud, distractive. Some stood beside their lockers, dancing to horrible tunes and humming off-key.
The prefect was irritated. She’d told them to zip it more times than she could count, but they acted like she was invisible.
Maybe it was her "perfecto" nature that made them rebel.
One last time, she stood up.
"Backbenchers! You better button it! The rest of the class is trying to revise. And I'm done telling you.
If you find yourself in the principal's office, don't come cussing at me. This is the last warning!"
But the backbenchers were blockheaded. They just booed her and carried on like she hadn’t spoken.
Two of them broke into an Anguka Nayo dance, shirts wide open, ties wrapped around their heads like elastic gym bands.
The teacher on duty heard the commotion and decided to pay a surprise visit. He went around the back where they would least expect him.
“Freeze as you are!” he called out, walking to the front.
The room fell silent.
“You two,” he barked. “Come to the front. Now.”
“Mmh. So you want to show us your chests, eh? What do you think this is? A club? A gym?”
He paused.
“Button it. And tuck it in. Right away.”
“Oh, and follow me to the staffroom. I can see how idle you are—let me get some work for you guys.”
