In my Real World vs. Virtual world article, I had mentioned that I was gonna do a digital detox for one full day. It had gone partly unsuccessful as I could only do it for half the day. The next half was spent playing games on iPad and phone.
I played those games for four days straight, day and night and then I got really sick of it. I ended up deleting some of those games including Sims. I have still kept Rollercoaster Tycoon on the iPad though. All that these games do is give you a false sense of doing productive work due to the dopamine rush received when we achieve targets in the game.
I realised I could be spending all of that precious time and energy doing something productive instead like interacting with various people on Hive, creating better content, editing videos and learning something new.

I spent first half of today watching some really creative videos made using GoPro which my friend shared with me. I also watched a few videos of people who uninstalled Social Media from their lives and what they had to say about their experience. That inspired me to try the same.
I loved this GoPro creative video by Abe Kislevitz so I'll drop this here:
For the second version of digital detox these are the list of things I would be deactivating:
- My Instagram Profile for a few days and delete Instagram app altogether: Instagram is one of the main sources of my distraction. I end up opening the app and keep on scrolling endlessly until I've had enough of it.
- My FB profile for a few days and uninstall FB app: When I get tired of Instagram, FB is usually the place where I'll be found lurking and scrolling down endlessly waiting for that red notification to pop up indicating the haha reacts on the memes I share.
The guys who made these apps are really smart and know what exactly they have to do to milk people's attention. Fortunately I never was interested in Twitter so never got addicted to it.
Here's some things I would try to make into a habit:
- Do guided Vipassana Meditation from Youtube everyday starting with 15 minutes and gradually move to the 1 hour sessions.
- Become more active on Hive.
- Start practicing the Guitar.
- Start some light workout to stay fit.
- Start waking up early in the morning and sleeping early in the night.
- Experience sunrise and sunset everyday on the terrace.
- Improve my video editing through the wealth of tutorials found on Youtube and also create some travel videos.
This is the time do be doing some productive work in life and if we waste it now, we may never get such a time again. I'll try to follow this new lifestyle for a few days and see where it goes.
What are some of the changes in your life that you have made during this lockdown?

Cheers!
