Today is Botox day. Every three months I see a local neurologist twenty minutes away from my home for 32 injections of Botox which sje injects in my forehead, skull, neck and shoulders. The purpose of these treatments is migraine prevention. The cost of the drug averages $1200 per appointment, but after my deductible is met, the insurances pays 90%. I am blessed because the Botox Savings Program through the manufacturer pays for the drug's out of pocket costs up to a certain amount. I don't recall the cap, but I also never reached that amount, so it's of no consequence at the moment.
I take the entire day off on Botox appointment days for a couple of reasons, despite the visit lasting a mere fifteen minutes. I'm never certain how my system will react to the injections. It's best to lean on the side of caution. It's also a gift of the selfish variety. I took off Thursday and Friday to be able to enjoy a four day weekend. I worked Monday and fielded after holiday calls for eight long hours, then I spent the evening battling severe nausea that morphed into a migraine. The day off work was a blessing.
It's not out of the order to get migraines more frequently beginning up to three weeks before the next injection set appointment. Radical barometric shifts accompanying fall weather trigger migraine. I look forward to migraine reduction once this Botox does it's work.
