The huge wolf sprang, covering the distance to the man in two leaps. The man's axe flew from his hands as he fell hard.
"Hold, change," the wolf ordered his pack, baring his teeth at his captive.
Three of the wolves trotted into the thick brush, while two dropped in place.
A few seconds later, the head and bare shoulders of a woman appeared. A large leather collar, now too big for her, hung like an oversized necklace.
She unzipped a compartment, and pulled out a one piece bathing suit, then a pink silk wallet, complete with sparkles.
The leader glanced her way for a second, obviously amused.
She took a badge out of the wallet, before putting it back in the compartment. Once dressed, she pinned the badge to her bathing suit and put the collar back on, this time as a belt / fanny pack.
The leader took a step back from the captive, as two men and the woman approached.
The woman's eyes widened after she took a deep breath. "You've got to be kidding! A human is responsible for all that?!?!!"
One of the men picked up the axe with a discarded towel. "Judging by the smell of the blood on that axe and what he was singing about, yes."
The man rolled over, now face down. "Help! Help, someone help me!" he shouted, lifting his head just enough to be heard properly.
The leader pounced, putting a single platter sized paw on his back.
Dan burst out of the motorhome, baseball bat ready. "What's going on out here?"
The woman stepped forward confidently, badge visible and ID in hand. "Police. Please stay in the vehicle, Sir."
"Don't believe them. They're trying to kill me," moaned the captive.
"Here's my ID Sir," she offered, gingerly reaching forward.
Dan took it. "It certainly looks real," he said handing it back.
She smiled. "We've been working undercover to capture this guy for weeks. He's been extremely careful not to leave any evidence behind, but now we've caught him red handed, so to speak."
Dan put the baseball bat down just in the doorway, and took in the odd scene. "You have a wolf for a police dog, Officer Links? And you three are out here in the cold looking like you're ready to go for a dip..."
She looked fondly at the wolf who was still in the same spot, paw holding down the suspect. "Warren isn't exactly a police dog. He's been with me for years though, and we make a pretty good team."
Dan nodded. "He certainly looks capable. Excuse my curiosity, but why are you all in swimwear?"
Officer Links resisted the urge to look at her unusual fanny pack. "That's a rather long story, but basically it's because they're the only clothes we had on hand. The vehicles had to be parked some distance away."
Dan scratched his head, looking at the three. "They're not even shivering," he marveled.
She produced a set of handcuffs from the belt, and in a flash took control of the suspect. "I'm sorry we bothered you, we'll on our way now."
Before they moved more than a few steps, the suspect dropped to his knees. "Can't you see they're not cops?!?! No radios or backup. They didn't even read me my rights!"
Dan didn't say anything, just stared. "Even if he's right, what could I do?" he thought.
The two men lifted him to to his feet, and Officer Links strolled back to the motorhome.
"We really are with law enforcement. If you call Detective Scufffeld in the Carnesburgh district, he can vouch for us."
Dan grinned, his eyebrows rising. "I've definitely never seen anything like this before, I might call just in the off chance of getting more information!"
She laughed, a relaxed and happy sound in her voice. "I hope you have a good night, Sir." Then she was gone.
Dan looked up at the stars again. "For being undercover, they sure weren't wearing the right disguises," he thought with a chuckle.
The small group was already several hundred yards away, headed into the woods instead of towards the road or any of the structures.
The man tried unsuccessfully to break free. "Who are you? I know you're not cops!" he growled.
The woman put her face close to him, speaking in a low, sweet voice. "I am a cop. But you're right, you won't be going to jail..."
The end!
Describe what you see:
I see a motorhome with the lights on in the living area. It's parked in either a campsite or a parking lot. It's close to other structures.
Describe what you feel:
I feel like it's a beautiful night, and the place is pretty much deserted. A perfect backdrop for an adventure!
