Today's Prompt: Cave Paintings
Mari peered around the dark, dimly lit mine shaft. Holding a torch in one hand and her wand in another, she made her way deeper into its bowels. Following closely behind was a small tabby cat, its eyes aglow in the darkness.
As Mari continued into the caves, shadows flickered at her peripherals, her attention being dragged away from her involuntarily. Meowing at intervals, the bushy tailed cat kept an eye behind the pair, putting Mari at ease. The two delved further and further into the mines, until they reached a natural opening in the cave system adjacent to the man-made mine shafts.
Stepping into its darkness, Mari’s torch scanned the perimeter of the area. Panning around at speed, Mari stopped abruptly and passed her torch backwards to a part of the walls that demanded her interest. Mari approached the markings on the cave wall; etched in its rugged surface stood a pair of humanoid figures, around what looked like a table, or a small wall. Entranced, Mari reached up and glided her hands across its surface. The small wall between the figures glowed a fierce blue as Mari’s fingers traced its outline. Mari’s companion hissed aggressively at her back, as the torch's light vanished, and the two stood bathed in the azure glare of the cave painting.
