Puede que parezca una "pavada", palabra coloquial argentina para significar algo intrascendente (entre otras acepciones), pero es siempre un privilegio poder "observar". En un mundo donde la rapidez de la vida cotidiana envuelve a demasiados seres humanos, la libertad ofrecida al poder generar ingresos propios, ayuda a desarrollar el sentido de la observación activa. Tal como lo vemos, éste regalo es un don que puede desarrollar cualquier cabeza pensante, con la sola inversión de tiempo y respiración. Es un lujo que probablemente se perfecciona con la entrada a la tercera edad y ayuda a la creación de piezas de texto como la que usted, amado lector, está leyendo en este momento.

It may seem a “pavada”, an Argentine colloquial word for something inconsequential (among other meanings), but it is always a privilege to be able to “observe”. In a world where the speed of everyday life engulfs too many human beings, the freedom offered by being able to generate one's own income helps to develop a sense of active observation. As we see it, this gift is a gift that can be developed by any thinking head, with only the investment of time and breath. It is a luxury that is probably perfected with the entry into old age and helps in the creation of pieces of text such as the one you, dear reader, are reading at this moment.
Es así como la panorámica ventana de nuestro alojamiento ha sido el visor de tantos hecho en apariencia intrascendentes o grotescos, que la sola dinámica de la vida suele desagregar. Ya hemos dicho, además, que caminar por las aceras del barrio Palermo da para todo. Pongamos, por ejemplo, una verdulería. Frutas, vegetales y legumbres son protagonistas de la acera en un espectáculo de color donde el "autor" (verdulero), oferta los productos del campo a sus potenciales clientes, como si de una galería de arte se tratara. El despliegue de combinaciones de color y ubicaciones estratégicas en la mezcla exhibida de contenedores, da como resultado obras de arte visual inesperadas, tanto como inadvertidas por el caminante distraído.

This is how the panoramic window of our lodging has been the viewfinder of so many apparently inconsequential or grotesque events, which the dynamics of life alone tends to disintegrate. We have already said, moreover, that walking along the sidewalks of the Palermo neighborhood gives for everything. Let's take, for example, a greengrocer's shop. Fruits, vegetables and legumes are the protagonists of the sidewalk in a spectacle of color where the “author” (greengrocer), offers the products of the field to his potential customers, as if it were an art gallery. The display of color combinations and strategic locations in the exhibited mix of containers, results in unexpected visual works of art, as much as unnoticed by the distracted walker.
Y aunque nuestro mimado lector no concuerde con nosotros, tales "obras" marcan parte del pulso de la ciudad como un todo. Puede que antes lo haya visto en mi país (Colonia Tovar), pero acá es una práctica que le da identidad a una de las ciudades más gigantescas de Sudamérica ¿Otro ejemplo? La dedicación a la limpieza de todos los ambientes citadinos. Es increíble la cantidad de "pasta" en la que deben estar invirtiendo las autoridades de Buenos Aires (al menos en Ciudad Autónoma), para mantener espacios verdaderamente limpios. El porteño se queja mucho de la suciedad de la ciudad. La verdad, creo, no han tenido la oportunidad de visitar otras ciudades del mundo que envidiarían a la capital argentina.

And although our pampered reader may not agree with us, such “works” mark part of the pulse of the city as a whole. I may have seen it before in my country (Colonia Tovar), but here it is a practice that gives identity to one of South America's most gigantic cities. The dedication to cleanliness in all city environments. It is incredible how much “dough” the authorities of Buenos Aires (at least in the Autonomous City) must be investing in order to maintain truly clean spaces. The porteño complains a lot about the dirtiness of the city. The truth, I think, is that they have not had the opportunity to visit other cities in the world that would envy the Argentine capital.
Y lo decimos con conocimiento de causa ¿Recuerdan el ventanal panorámico de nuestro alojamiento? Diagonal a él se encuentra un contenedor de residuos, tal como el que se muestra en la imagen que adorna ésta publicación. Bueno, una serie de camiones recolectores y limpiadores pasan dos veces al día (mañana y noche) para recolectar y lavar el contenedor. Pero adicional a ello, los camiones cisternas transitan en la madrugada lavando con chorros de agua a presión, las calles del barrio justo después de que un ejército de hombres pasa recogiendo lo más grande que no pueda ser lavado. Alrededor de estos contenedores se tejen vidas, dada la cantidad de personas que reciclan cartón, revisando cada uno como si de conseguir un tesoro se tratara. Y eso, estimado lector, da una semblanza de la vida en una ciudad tan linda. Los leo en los comentarios.

Well, a series of collection trucks and cleaners pass by twice a day (morning and evening) to collect and wash the container. But in addition to that, tanker trucks pass by in the early morning hours washing the streets of the neighborhood with jets of pressurized water, just after an army of men pass by picking up the bigger stuff that can't be washed. Lives are woven around these containers, give the number of people who recycle cardboard, going through each one as if it were a treasure.
