[ESP/ENG] Carnavales que nos unen

Recuerdo que, cuando estaba en tercer o cuarto grados escuché hablar de los carnavales, no tenía ni idea de lo que se estaba hablando y, como niño al fin le pregunté a mi maestra qué cosa eran los carnavales. Apelando a la memoria, recuerdo que mi educadora algo extrañada me dijo que eran unas fiestas en las que participaban una gran cantidad de personas. Al llegar a casa le pregunté a mi mamá y me dijo que eran unas fiestas de pueblo.

Como pasó con muchas interrogantes y dudas de la infancia, estas se fueron respondiendo con el paso de los años en el que cada uno de nosotros se forma su propio juicio, sobre los procesos y fenómenos que ocurren a nuestro alrededor. Así pasó con los carnavales.

Antes de seguir quiero agradecer a la querida Hive account@numa26 que tuvo palabras muy bonitas por mi participación en la comunidad #HiveArgentina y me invitó a participar en esta iniciativa sobre los carnavales. Confieso que no estaba muy seguro de participar porque no conservo fotos sobre mis experiencias en estas fiestas, pero, además de Hive account@numa26, me atrapó la manera en que Hive account@littlesorceress hizo su entrada en esta iniciativa y la respuesta a un comentario que le hice a su publicación. Todo ello me ha empujado hacia aquí.
Quisiera invitar a Hive account@osismi, Hive account@zorili91 y a Hive account@nony para que participen en esta fiesta que es la iniciativa carnavalesca que nos propone Hive account@hiveargentina.

Coincidirán conmigo en que los carnavales más allá de ser unas simples fiestas son tradiciones culturales que identifican a las diferentes regiones del mundo y que, en ellas se exponen costumbres, rituales, tradiciones de cada uno de los lugares, como una manera de afianzar la identidad cultural de ese lugar.

Cuando leía la publicación de Hive account@littlesorceress ella explicaba que en el proceso de preparación para los carnavales de su país muchos la miraban y pensaban o decían que ellos eran pobres, porque estas expresiones de los carnavales nos vienen de nuestros antepasados aborígenes y/o esclavos. Pero, nada más lejos de la verdad porque, a pesar de venir de allí, esas tradiciones que nos legaron nuestros antepasados nos ha dado riquezas de vida y nos ha permitido saber de dónde vinimos, dónde estamos y hacia dónde vamos.

Si buscamos los elementos esenciales de estos carnavales en nuestra región, veremos qué, a pesar de vivir en países diferentes, hay elementos que los hacen universales y nos unen como región. Por ejemplo:
• Son fiestas populares.
• Se realizan preferentemente en la época de verano.
• Las expresiones populares se materializan en disfraces, competencias de bailes y rituales que identifican a cada región.
• Se caracterizan por ventas de alimentos, ropas y otros elementos necesarios.
• Se concentra una gran cantidad de personas y de varios grupos de edades.

Es posible que falten otras, pero estas nos unen como latinoamericanos que somos.

Los carnavales acá han tenido diferentes momentos que han tenido que ver con la situación económica que ha vivido el país. Por ejemplo, en la década de los años 90 los carnavales dejaron de realizarse y, para, cuando se reanudaron, ya no eran igual, incluso, cambiaron el nombre de carnavales por fiestas populares y, aunque sigue siendo un espacio de fiestas de pueblo, la realidad es que el sabor de antaño no es el mismo.

A pesar de lo anterior, en Cuba están presente los elementos, elementos mencionados anteriormente. Pero, si usted le pregunta a un cubano qué es lo que distingue nuestros carnavales, le dirá que hay cinco elementos que no pueden faltar en estos acontecimientos culturales:

• Congas
• Comparsas
• Carrozas
• Carnaval infantil
• Conciertos musicales de las principales agrupaciones musicales de la región o el país.

Dentro de estos elementos quizás llame la atención el carnaval infantil, pero, este se hace para los niños, se venden dulces, confituras, se hacen juegos de participación, se disfrazan, participan agrupaciones musicales infantiles y los niños van acompañados de los padres o mayores responsables.
En los carnavales se come en la calle, en mi caso busco el programa musical, para bailar con las orquestas que son de mi agrado, me gusta ver el desfile de comparsas y carrozas.

Mi experiencia en los carnavales

Mi experiencia en los carnavales viene de mis padres, sobre todo, de mi madre que bailaba en las comparsas mientras mi papá tocaba en la conga. Por esas cosas del ritmo y que uno se la pasaba bien, mi experiencia fue más bien como músico con mi papá mientras tres de mis cuatro hermanas bailaban en la comparsa.

Mi hermana mayor fue lucero de un carnaval y el afán de llegar a alcanzar algún premio como mi hermana nos llevó a cuatro de mis cinco hermanos a esforzarnos para emular con mi hermana mayor, pero nunca alcanzamos ningún premio que no fuera el reconocimiento por nuestra participación.

Recuerdo que, en mi antiguo municipio, el carnaval era un espacio para ayudar a los niños del barrio y de los aledaños que no podían ir al carnaval porque sus padres no trabajaban o no tenían el sustento económico para llevarlos al carnaval infantil. Varias veces mis hermanos y yo guiados por mi mamá veníamos de los carnavales con confituras y bocadillos para que ellos comieran o le comprábamos disfraces para que pudieran vivir su carnaval. Este era uno de los momentos que más satisfacción me daba porque arrancarle una sonrisa a un niño es la mayor alegría que puede recibir un ser humano.

Un comentario final

Los carnavales son espacios de confraternización y de socialización entre los seres humanos. Son espacios de creación y de vida plena porque disfrutamos, bailamos, nos reímos y disfrutamos. Son momentos de dicha y felicidad, en los que, en todos nuestros países el amor y la vida se vuelven fiestas hechas carnavales.

I confess that I wasn't very sure about participating because I don't keep photos about my experiences in these parties, but, besides Hive account@numa26, I was caught by the way Hive account@littlesorceress made her entry in this initiative and the response to a comment I made to her post. All of which pushed me here.

The carnivals that unite us

You will agree with me that carnivals, beyond being simple festivals, are cultural traditions that identify the different regions of the world and that, in them, customs, rituals, traditions of each place are exposed, as a way to strengthen the cultural identity of that place.

When I was reading the publication of Hive account@littlesorceress she explained that in the process of preparing for the carnivals of her country many looked at her and thought or said that they were poor, because these expressions of carnivals come to us from our aboriginal ancestors and / or slaves. But, nothing could be further from the truth because, in spite of coming from there, these traditions that our ancestors bequeathed us have given us richness of life and have allowed us to know where we came from, where we are and where we are going.

If we look for the essential elements of these carnivals in our region, we will see that, despite living in different countries, there are elements that make them universal and unite us as a region. For example:

• They are popular festivals.
• They take place preferably in the summer season.
• Popular expressions are materialized in costumes, dance competitions and rituals that identify each region.
• They are characterized by sales of food, clothes and other necessary elements.
• A large number of people and of various age groups are concentrated.

Others may be missing, but they unite us as the Latin Americans that we are.

Carnivals here have had different moments that have had to do with the economic situation the country has experienced. For example, in the 90's the carnivals stopped being held and, by the time they were resumed, they were no longer the same, they even changed the name from carnivals to popular festivals and, although it is still a space for people's parties, the reality is that the flavor of yesteryear is not the same.

In spite of the above, the elements mentioned above are present in Cuba. But, if you ask a Cuban what distinguishes our carnivals, he/she will tell you that there are five elements that cannot be missing in these cultural events:

• Congas
• Comparsas
• Floats
• Children's carnival
• Musical concerts of the main musical groups of the region or the country.

Among these elements, the children's carnival may attract attention, but this is done for children, candies and jams are sold, games are played, they dress up, children's musical groups participate and the children are accompanied by their parents or responsible adults.
In the carnivals you eat in the street, in my case I look for the musical program, to dance with the orchestras that are to my liking, I like to see the parade of troupes and floats.

My experience in the carnivals

My experience in the carnivals comes from my parents, especially from my mother who danced in the comparsas while my father played in the conga. Because of the rhythm and having a good time, my experience was more as a musician with my dad while three of my four sisters danced in the comparsa.

My older sister was a star of a carnival and the desire to reach some prize like my sister led four of my five brothers to strive to emulate my older sister, but we never achieved any award other than recognition for our participation.

I remember that, in my old municipality, the carnival was a space to help children from the neighborhood and surrounding areas who could not go to the carnival because their parents did not work or did not have the financial support to take them to the children's carnival. Several times my brothers and I, guided by my mom, would come from the carnivals with jams and snacks for them to eat or we would buy them costumes so they could live their carnival. This was one of the moments that gave me the most satisfaction because to make a child smile is the greatest joy a human being can receive.

A final comment

Carnivals are spaces of fraternization and socialization among human beings. They are spaces of creation and full life because we enjoy, we dance, we laugh and we enjoy. They are moments of joy and happiness, in which, in all our countries, love and life become parties made carnivals.
