It has studied the heavens
more than you and I.

Like the sky at dawn,
we pass through moments of grace
as our highs wear off.

I no longer seek
answers in the outside world.
I now search within.

Today I turned right
at the place in the road where
I always turned left.

Sometimes it seems like
the trees are trying to teach
me something. But what?

This rock I stand on,
once under ocean, will it
soon be above me?

As I move forward,
the horizon backs away,
one step at a time.

Whether cutting grass
or shoveling snow, always
small talk and complaints.

After the rain falls,
there is a silence before
life begins again.

I had come to think
there would always be a home
I could return to.

The evening sun sets
the sky on fire, and your voice
whispers in my ear.

To think that I, too,
once looked as fresh and vibrant
as this azalea.

Being a parent,
it’s more about learning
than anything else.

Sometimes it’s best when
all our plans get cancelled, and
we just do nothing.
