I had not known before
Forever was such a draining word.
The eternal front of time
I cannot fathom or see.
Wisdom ever evades them;
It seems no human heart learns,
But toils and trusts and doubts and fears,
Left on Earth to bleed.
The night holds brightness,
Nor is the day all it seems,
But each may bring me this respite—
My hopes and plans.
So bring forth the wind,
Forever in this doomed world,
Whispering the truth,
The one we fail to hear.
