I go to bed and rest till dawn
without no fear for what’s to come
I know my ‘friend’ and loyal mate
stands guard to watch ‘oer me with love
At day we walk, his eyes I need
his belt is stringed to bells for me
So when he comes to help me see
the bells announce his presence nigh
We make our move, with steps aligned
he knows my pace, I trust his sight
With such a friend, I walk with smile
My doughty mastiff guards my side
Our hearts are synced, no doubt in that
my strength and his, unmatched or par
My friend and I seek more to life
I have his eyes, he has my life.
He lies by me and comforts comes
through him I feel, the warmth of love
Although you’d think, he’s just a dog
untrue I say, he’s more than that
Oh what a joy, to walk with ‘friend’
who never fails to keep me safe
He is my eyes, I am his life
My doughty mastiff guards my side.
Been years you know, since I retreat
to world unseen, and dark within
But when my ‘friend’, became my guide
My world received, new sight with light
It was a fate, what’s meant to be
cause with my eyes, my ‘friend’ I’d miss
But thanks to fate which can’t be faked
I met a friend with selflessness
Everyday I feel so lucky to live
and blessed to have a friend that feels
The bond we share, is strong and tough
My doughty mastiff made me whole.
