Oh my country once a sweet abode
A land of love and light
A home of beauty and boldness
A peak of serenity and security
A cradle of hospitality and humility
A harbour of peace and purity
My country the once giant of Africa
One home with diversity in cultures
One home endowed with God given resources
Blessed with riches and wealth
Yet now our hearts bleed in pains
Screams everywhere young and old
Salts tears of blood run through our cheeks day and
night
North to West and East to South
Torments and torture abides
Hate and haughtiness rules
Animosity and hostility so unbearable
Bloodshed becomes our best friend
Pride our brothers
Envy and jealousy our sisters
My country has made friends with terrorism and nepotism
Peace has become its worst enemy
Zenith of tranquility turned a place of animosity
A place of hospitality becomes a place of hostility
A place of refuge becomes a war ground
Gunshots our daily music
Fear grips from dawn to dusk
Nightfalls and darkness creeps in with a lot of evil and fright
Everyone awaits dawn full of hope
Now staring from the window
I see a rainbow
Not trying to be boastful
But very very hopeful
I see my country the fallen giant rising up to the blue skies.
What lifts it up?
Nothing, I say nothing but LOVE, PEACE, HONESTY, TOLERANCE, HUMILITY, ONENESS, COURAGE, AND UNITY.
Leaders or courage and peace should emerge mustn't be me or you
No! Not Igbo, not Yoruba!
Not Hausa, not Fulani!
Don't say Tiv or Igbira or Efik
NEVER!
Choose for greatness!
Choose for love!
Choose for development.
