I was just a regular person like anyone else you'd see on the streets. Nothing special about me. I'm not spectacular in the slightest. So why it chose to let me live I cannot say for certain. But this thing, I call a Not Deer, it's a monster that after this you too will detest.
I was driving home after my late night shift at my shitty fast food job following behind a trucker going my way. However I stopped by a mom and pop gas station that was still open at 10 PM so I stopped to grab myself a little something to eat, you know, to treat myself with something sweet.
I tore open a honey bun package and scarfed it down and washed it down with a diet coke. I just love the taste and crispness of the diet coke compared to regular sugar soda, don't judge me. At least not for that. I'm not fat, I worked out every week, just like the taste.
Anyway, I finished my little sweet treat like some sort of starved rat and sought out to seek my way home in the waste of what could only be called a town being asleep.
I got back on the road to my destination, home but after a short while I notice the truck I was following earlier happened to be parked on the ... wait, not parked, wrecked, on the side of the road. This doesn't bode well, so I put on my hazards and step out foolishly with the 20/20 hindsight, but I wanted to make sure he was OK and see if he needed help.
Welp, I hate to say it, I heard a voice, a man's voice, calling from the woods screaming "Help! Help me!" So I track down to where the voice was coming from but I couldn't see anything with my phone's camera light.
I didn't even see what was coming, just a sudden sharp pain to the back of my head and then I wake with my fight or flight responses kicking into overdrive. I'm in some earthly den made with knurled roots and dried mud. My head is splitting, still haven't grasped the reality of what's going on. I stumble my way into another room looking for someone, anyone, and what do I see?
I nearly pee my pants when I notice a man... no half a man, the other half of him is being eaten by these grotesque things. What the actual Sam god damn fuck are these things? I can see the terror and agony the man is silently screaming. Then I notice .. it. The Not Deer. It picks the rest of the man up who I assume was the trucker from earlier and tosses him in with it's disgusting young.
My knees felt weak and my eyes heavy with blackness taking over. My legs buckle beneath myself freeing me from my sturdy feet. My rear on the ground, I'm sobbing, scared and frozen in place. This thing had front facing eyes, human eyes, and sharp teeth. I can feel the heat of this abomination radiating from it. I can't help myself but sit and then out like a light.
I come to probably hours later, head still throbbing and the realization of what I saw happen actually did happen and hits me like a ton of bricks. I can't help but start sobbing, looking over to the young. I'm expecting to be fed next.
I'm also noticing something else, a smell. I smell. I smell like piss. I sniff my shirt so no it's definitely not me, I think the not deer marked me with piss. Disgusting. I'm not feeling well still, and I have in the same room a terrified kid, probably 5 or 6 years old crying uncontrollably.
The not deer returned moments later and gestured towards me, to the kid, then to the young like it was trying to communicate. The young must masticate after all right? I tentatively shush the screaming kid, which consoles him for a short bit. Then it hit me what the Not Deer wanted of me. Don't let the kid flee, toss him into to Younglings so they can feast on his flesh.
I turned pale, I can feel myself get woozy once again realizing what I must do. My first reaction was to yell "Screw you" to the Not Deer, but second guessing myself figured that would be a bad idea else I go znoozy too and possibly get fed instead.
I take notice, the Not Deer motioning for me to throw. The kid's not noticing any of this as they're crying into my piss stained shirt. I'm such a fucking coward, I threw the child in with the young and watched as viscera flew. The Not Deer isn't taking notice to me at the time so I took the opportunity to dart out of the room and manage to find my way out of the monster's den.
After hours of running, my lungs feeling like they're on fire, I finally come across a small cave system behind some brush. I dive in there and try my best to steady my breathing. I'm not ready to get back out and do anything with that monster around. I don't know where I am nor how far from civilization I am, but god damnit I must survive and I cannot be subservient to a monster.
My needs right now are dire, but I have to make do with what I have available. I'll wait until tomorrow morning inside this cave and then I will search for some clear water and some food to eat.
Night falls, I feel comfortable as I can be though my feet ache from running like a mad man. I end up lulling to sleep. I've never slept so good in my life. But upon rousing awake, I take notice that I'm not where I was before, I'm back in that fucking den.
I don't know if I can stand to be this thing's babysitter or nanny or whatever the hell it wants me to do. I wish it would kill me already. Steady, Bruce, Steady. I'll be ready for the next escape. I'll be ready, I intend to go further next time. Oh fuck yeah water. Delicious, clean water. Why me?
