These pictures were all snapped on various travels I've taken around the world. I've written a lot about the transformative nature of travel - that catharsis of change often inspired by travel is one of nature’s greatest natural healing mechanisms.
We are after all a busy species, constantly curious in our need for growth. This manifests both outwardly and inwardly, as human beings often become sick (mentally) when they stagnate in one form or another. I can attest to this as I was suffering severe depression prior to my backpacking trip through Thailand in 2010. The journey I undertook was both physical and mental, a path to realization as much as to the places I visited on my stay in the land of smiles.
I realised I was an introvert struggling in a world that focuses on rewarding and encouraging extrovert behaviours. I realised that this was OK. I came to the profound conclusion that the flow of inspiration and love of creation through writing comes from my introvert’s brain.
These realisations were born out of travel - a sometimes lonely and painful catharsis as I wandered the cities, beaches and wild jungle of Thailand. I found that I am most still in wild places, that I find creative ideas from wilderness places and observing wildlife - a kind of Zen-like state in which it is natural to tap into the inspiration all around. Expressing that state of existence is what all good Haiku are about. Hopefully, my trio of Haiku can place the reader in that moment of stillness I experienced at each of those places as the sun rose on a new day.
Thanks for reading.
