Hello everyone! Being a farmer’s wife is not easy because you cannot just wait for the harvest and do nothing. In our daily life, I also help in the farm as much as I can because I know how hard my husband works. While waiting for harvest season, there are many things to do in the rice field. When weeds start growing, I help remove them so the palay can grow properly. Sometimes it is very hot and muddy, but I still help because even simple things can already lessen my husband’s work.
When it is time to put fertilizer, I also help prepare the fertilizer. I hand him the sacks and prepare the things needed so the work becomes faster. We really need teamwork in life because farming is hard if only one person works. Since we both dream of having a better life for our family, we also help each other in the work. I help through financing from my online job and also in these simple ways.
After harvest, we always keep some rice for our own consumption. We dry the palay in front of our farmhouse so I can watch it while taking care of my daughter. Sometimes she plays near the dried rice and even helps us spread or gather it. For her, it feels like playtime, but for me, I am happy because she is slowly seeing our real life in the farm.
Once the palay is dry, we bring it to the rice mill so we can have rice for everyday use. We are thankful because somehow, we do not need to buy rice anymore. Every harvest season, we also share some rice with my parents and my in-laws. It is our simple way of thanking them for their help and support.
The rice bran from the milling is also useful because we use it to feed our ducks and pigs. My father-in-law has ducks, so after harvest, the baby ducks stay in the rice field for around one to two weeks before we prepare the land again for the next cropping. Every morning, my daughter gets excited to feed the baby ducks and collect eggs. She really enjoys it because she loves animals and being outside in the farm.
Thank you for reading my story, this is my owned picture and edited in Canva. This is our simple life in the province. It is not always easy because farming needs patience and hard work, but seeing the result of our hard work feels fulfilling. As a wife, I believe helping in the farm, even in simple ways, is already a big help for the family. Have a nice day!
