It was November 28, 2023, the last day I was officially at home in Buenos Aires last year. After having my first taste of travel away from home in the province of San Juan for two months, I feel that many horizons have expanded for me and now I can go anywhere. When I came back from San Juan I stayed at home for about three weeks to be at some important dates I wanted to attend, but very soon I had already planned my next trip. This time I had a lot more experience on what to bring with me and I can say that now I feel much more prepared ❤️.
Fue el 28 de noviembre de 2023 el último día que oficialmente estuve en mi casa en Buenos Aires el año pasado. Después de tener mi primera prueba de viaje lejos de casa en la provincia de San Juan durante dos meses, siento que se expandieron muchos horizontes para mí y ahora puedo ir a donde sea. Cuando volví de San Juan me quedé en mi casa unas tres semanas para estar en algunas fechas importantes que quería presenciar, pero muy pronto ya tenía planeado mi siguiente viaje. Esta vez tenía mucha más experiencia sobre qué cosas traer conmigo y puedo decir que ahora me siento mucho más preparada ❤️.
The trips that followed at the end of November included two destinations in southern Argentina, but one with mostly cold weather and the other with heat during the day and cold at night in the mountains. This meant that in my luggage I had to pack snow gear as well as bathing suits and some dresses. At first I saw it as a lot of luggage, but then I realized that this allows me to go anywhere in my country without the need to return home at short notice. Since I have clothes for all climates, I could go anywhere without any problems.
Los viajes que vinieron a continuación a fines de noviembre incluían dos destinos en el sur de Argentina, pero uno con clima principalmente frío y otro con calor por el día y el frío de la noche en las montañas. Esto hizo que en mi equipaje tuviera que guardar ropa para nieve y también trajes de baño y algunos vestidos. Al principio lo ví como mucho equipaje, pero después me di cuenta de que esto me permite ir a cualquier punto de mi país sin necesidad de volver a mi casa a la brevedad. Ya que tengo ropa para todos los climas, podría ir a cualquier lugar sin problemas.
Today marked two months since I left home and I think it went by much faster than the two months I was alone in San Juan. So far, I've been working in three other hostels where I've met a lot of new friends, met people from other countries, improved my English speaking and learned a lot about other cultures. "Time flies when you are having fun" is what they say, and this was exactly like that.
Hoy se cumplieron dos meses desde que salí de casa y creo que me pasaron mucho más rápido que los dos meses que estuve solo en San Juan. Hasta el momento, estuve trabajando en otros tres hostels en los que conocí a un montón de amigos nuevos, gente de otros países, mejoré mi charla en inglés y aprendí un montón sobre otras culturas. "El tiempo vuela cuando uno se divierte" es lo que dicen, y esto fue exactamente así.
One of the things I wondered about the travelers was how they sustained their long journeys through these beautiful places. So far, the travelers I met on the tours or even my co-workers, support their trips with savings, street art, selling handicrafts made by themselves or getting temporary jobs in each place they go. As the modality of volunteer work in hostels does not include payment in the form of money (it is only an exchange for accommodation and breakfast), it is necessary to have another source of income to maintain your personal economy.
Una de las cosas que me preguntaba sobre los viajeros era como sustentaban sus viajes tan largos por estos lugares hermosos. Hasta ahora, los viajeros que conocí en los paseos o mismo mis compañeros de trabajo, solventan sus viajes con ahorros, arte callejero, vendiendo artesanías hechas por ellos mismos o consiguiendo empleos temporales en cada lugar al que van. Como la modalidad de trabajo voluntario en los hostels no incluye pago en forma de dinero (solo es un intercambio por el alojamiento y el desayuno), es necesario tener otra fuente de ingresos para mantener tu economía personal.
Of all the people I met, none of them are digital nomads or anything like that, not even thanks to a regular but remote job. No one heard about cryptocurrencies or making money online either, so when they hear my story of affording my long trip thanks to Hive they are shocked. Although in Argentina there is a little bit of movement about cryptocurrencies, this topic is still a bit closed because the common people still see it as a malicious business. Many people ask a bit curious questions, but I think no one really trusts that you can make a living out of this: they have no idea what they are missing :)
De todas las personas que conocí, ninguna es nómada digital o algo por el estilo, ni siquiera gracias a un trabajo regular pero remoto. Tampoco nadie escuchó hablar sobre criptomonedas ni ganar dinero por internet, así que cuando escuchan mi historia de costear mi viaje largo gracias a Hive quedan sorprendidos. Si bien en Argentina hay un poco de movida sobre criptomonedas, aún se mantiene un poco cerrado este tema debido a que el común de la gente sigue viéndolo como un negocio malicioso. Muchos preguntan un poco curiosos, pero creo que nadie termina de confiar en que se puede vivir de esto: ellos no tienen idea de todo lo que se están perdiendo :)
It's very strange to think that a few years ago doing this kind of long trip wouldn't even have crossed my mind. Every hostel I go to for work becomes my temporary home, my office for online classes and Hive work, my place to hang out with guests and friends, and my space to feel safe. An experience like this is what I needed and I'm glad I took the plunge. I don't have a next destination planned yet because I don't want to rush and live quietly in the moment, but I'm sure the next one I choose will be as nice as all the ones I've seen so far 💕.
Es muy raro pensar que hace unos años hacer este tipo de viaje tan largo ni siquiera se hubiese cruzado por mi cabeza. Cada hostel al que voy a trabajar se transforma en mi casa temporal, mi oficina de trabajo de clases online y de Hive, mi lugar de convivencia con huéspedes y amigos y mi espacio para sentirme segura. Una experiencia como esta es la que necesitaba y me alegra haberme animado a vivirla. Todavía no tengo un siguiente destino planeado porque no quiero apresurarme y vivir tranquila el momento, pero estoy segura de que el próximo que elija va a ser tan lindo como todos los que vi hasta ahora ❣️.
