A new human species, named homo bodoensis has been discovered. This species lived in Africa about 500,000 years ago and it was the direct ancestor of modern humans. The name bodoensis comes from a cranium found in Bodo D’ar, Awash River valley, Ethiopia.
This species was probably predominant in Africa about 500,000 years ago and probably also gave origin to Neanderthals, which ended up developing in Europe. More remains from this epoch would need to be discovered to further clarify the picture of human evolution.
