Hello everybody :)
I hope you are enjoying these last weekends of August and summer. The days are already starting to get shorter and without realizing it we're back to Autumn, classes and all the usual routines. This weekend we took our little one to visit Nossa Senhora do Salto. A place of devotion for many, for others, a place to walk, picnic and even climb. I haven't visited the place in a few years. The accesses have all been improved and the motorway leaves right there.
This place, like many others, is part of the Route of the Romanesque, which is a route made up of 58 monuments along the Sousa, Douro and Tâmega rivers,
The view of the green landscapes and the serene waters of the river is simply breathtaking. Fresh air and a sense of tranquility help us to forget about everyday concerns.
We took a walk along the natural trails where we could observe people climbing at different points. Along the way, we see informative signs, including the legend that everyone associates with Senhora do Salto.
A long time ago, a young knight fell madly in love with a beautiful peasant woman. Fate wanted them not to be together and they were cruelly separated. Heartbroken, the knight mounted his horse and galloped down the hill, plunging into the river below. The peasant woman, desolate with sadness, climbed to the top and with tears in her eyes, she pleaded for the life of her beloved. At that moment, the earth shook, as if by a miracle an image of the Virgin Mary appeared, stretching out her hands towards the knight. The knight was suspended in the air and safe from certain death.
Since then, the image has been known as "Lady of the Jump", and the place has become a sanctuary of faith and hope.
Since then, many have gone to the chapel, where they light candles and keep their promises. It was not possible for us to visit the interior this time.
Continuing our walk we arrived at an amphitheater.
There it was possible to stop and observe the Sousa River, the famous "Boca do Inferno".
Two huge cliffs side by side, narrow with the river flowing between them.
At that moment we can almost imagine small boats passing by there, formerly shrouded in mystery.
We go down to the river and observe the majesty of these rocks in more detail.
For a few moments, the spirit of adventure wanted to take us along one of the trails that run along the riverbank along the cliff, but looking up and seeing all those suspended stones, we decided not to risk it and turned back.
After all this and on the way back, after climbing the steep coast we decided to remember old times and stopped at the only tavern there to eat a beautiful woodpecker.
Many bikers go to that place just to have a snack and enjoy the view, as you can see in the last photo taken before returning.
That´s all for today :)

Always remember:
Value your time, because every fraction counts, and the price of anything is the amount of life you trade for it.
May the memories of the travels be eternalized in the photographs, and may the photographs transport us back to the travels ;)
